Auckland Bound

March 6, 2011

Waiting for a flight (delayed) to L.A., then on to Auckland to see close friends and their brand new baby boy. This is not a frustrating delay. I repeat …  NOT frustrating. In fact, it’s been the most relaxing few hours Justin and I have spent together in months. JFK is sprucey: an interactive wall with drag & spin tangrams; a terminal-length mural of the world’s most famous buildings with a corresponding monitor zooming in on them one at a time; cashmere socks on sale 80% off. During a long wait for security, we chatted with another traveler and wondered about the flag above us. He sent a pic of it to his kids. When’s the last time we could just stand and wonder about a flag? We are already in full vacation mode.

Plus, I’ve had a chance to make my Time Difference Spreadsheet. After the 39-hour door-to-door trip with we took to southeast Asia with my sis and brother-in-law, this 28-hour door-to-door feels substantially shorter.

Hope to write from Auckland. Or Mt. Doom.
